Dr Tom Alves

Dr Tom Alves is Head of Development at the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI), leading AHURI’s Professional Services division and Cities Research Agenda. Tom has held positions at RMIT University, The University of Melbourne, the Office of the Victorian Government Architect, and the Victorian Design Review Panel.

With a PhD in Housing and Urban Studies, Tom has a longstanding interest in housing policy, design, and provision. He led the development of Victoria’s Better Apartment Design Standards and was lead author for the Housing Chapter for Plan Melbourne.
